Intro to Comedic Acting
2 day master-class

Course led by John Dawson

What is funny and why do some people seem so natural at being so?

In this master-class performers will study the structure of the verbal joke and the physical gag, irony, satire, absurdity, various comic relationships as well as classic performers and why they were successful. How an actor knows what will work and create a humorous effect in a given situation lies in the development of an intuitive sixth sense about the nature of comedy and why an audience responds in a certain way. Through game playing and exercises performers will begin to understand and develop their natural comic presence and timing, enabling them to create memorable comedic characters.
