Slaughterhouse, Swan (World Premiere) by

Elizabeth Moynihan

 Absolute Gay Festival

Eala Productions in association with Focus Theatre

Bartie is the only butcher in the town of Swan; He is also the only female impersonator. Canais’ son arrives home unannounced from an absence of ten years. Cepta, his twin sister, has had a career change and a spell in prison for unlawful sex with a minor, Rose, her piano student. It’s the eve of Mammy’s birthday and she has not returned from her pilgrimage to Loch Derg. Family drama overflows amidst cake and celebrations, with long-held recriminations, accusations and resentments rising to the surface.

Walnuts Remind me of my Mother was one of the big hits of the 2009 Absolute Gay Festival. Elizabeth Moynihan is an exciting new writer to watch. She returns with another incisive view of family dysfunction in rural Ireland.

Elizabeth Moynihan, Zebbie Award Winner 2009 Irish Playwrights and Screen-Writers Guild of Ireland for Best New Radio for The Cider Queens.

Hollywood Valhalla

By Aiden Harney

World Premiere

A touching and timely new play that examines love, friendship, moral courage and public responsibility in times of great difficulty. Set in the 80’s ‘Hollywood Valhalla’ examines the last days of film icon Rock Hudson, who is dying of AIDS. Rock struggles with a dilemma - should he break his clean-cut image and declare his illness, forcing the Reagan administration to help people dying of the disease or should he preserve his image for posterity? An emotional and warm human drama about age and responsibility. A beautiful evening not to be missed.

Aiden Harney is one of the up and coming new voices for Irish theatre writing. Hollywood Valhalla is an exciting new play, full of humanity and compassion. A writer to watch.

Organised in collaboration with Age and Opportunity as part of the national Bealtaine Festival celebrating positive aging.
